FESTIVAL OF LIFE

OCTOBER 2005

INSPIRING RESTORATION FOR
RIVERS, LAND AND PEOPLE

On Saturday October 8, RisingLeaf Watershed Arts offered the second annual Watershed Festival of Life.

The festival day began with Deborah Streeter presenting the Gathering
of the Waters
ceremony with a ten-foot long steelhead puppet leading the
way. Stepanie Mills, author of the acclaimed books Epicurean Simplicity and In Service of the Wild was the keynote speaker. Her talk was on
Back it Comes Again: Water and Hope. Events and fun included live harp music, organic food, theater and watershed activities for families.
Organizations and businesses were represented that focus on promoting
river and watershed health. There was a showing of the documentary
Stuck in the Mud: The Pajaro River in Peril by Santa Cruz resident Lois
Robin.

Apresentation of the Second Annual Watershed Heroes Awards was followed by a performance featuring Elaine Bolduc, Deborah Kelly, and Abdoulaye Diallo and his West African rhythms drumming group Casa Mansa, celebrating restoration for rivers, land and people.
